Dual heat sources hybrid heat pump
From technical point of view, the heating output and COP of single heat source air water heat pump are mainly decided by outdoor ambient temperature. The lower the outdoor ambient temperature, the less heating output from heat pump and the lower COP. The lower the outdoor ambient temperature, the lower evaporation temperature for heat pump, the less refrigerant flow for compressor and the less heat can be absorbed by evaporator of heat pump, the less heat delivery from heat pump condenser.
How to improve the performance of air water heat pump to have a better heating output and higher COP? An additional backup heat source shall definitely help the performance of heat pump.
During rainy and cloudy days, water from solar thermal collector may not be hot enough for house heating or sanitary hot water production. But this thermal energy is a good heat source for heat pump. Even if it is only around 20 Celsius degrees, it is helpful for heat pump.
